UNO® Introduces First Braille Deck

 

UNO has announced this week its new UNO Braille, the first UNO card deck to feature braille. The new version of the game will be widely accessible for the more than 7 million blind and low-vision individuals in the United States.

Designed in partnership with the National Federation of the Blind, the oldest and largest organization for the blind in the U.S., the game will feature braille on the corner of each playing card to indicate the card’s color and number or action.

The UNO Braille packaging will feature braille on the front and back with instructions on how to go to UNOBraille.com, where they’ll find play instructions featuring braille readable files to download. There are also voice-enabled instructions through Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

UNO is known for re-imagining their classic game to expand its access for players. In 2017, they introduced UNO ColorADD, an accessible card game for players with color blindness.

“With the launch of UNO Braille, we’re making a real impact on a community that has been underserved by providing a game that both blind and sighted people can play together,” said Ray Adler, Global Head of Games at Mattel in a statement. “We are proud to have UNO Braille on shelves and to be making UNO more accessible and inclusive to even more families.”
